Could you spec me a PSU? Obviously as cheap but reliable as possible.

Current system:

Q6600 (G0) @ 3.0ghz
8GB Corsair Dominator DDR2
2x 1gb Samsung F3 HD
8800 GT 256mb GFX

Now obviously the 8800 is the bottleneck here, i'm looking at getting a second hand 1GB HD 4870, or something around that spec.

What PSU would you recommend for all of this?

I'm using a Passive 460w Coolermaster PSU at the moment.

+1 for the BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W

Using one now with a very similar system, minus the extra hard drive.

It is extremely quiet and has loads of connections, so future proof.

However by the looks of it your current PSU would be sufficient

Will my current PSU be sufficient if I got a HD4850/4870? If so, why would I consider upgrading the PSU (serious question, i'm not sure what the benefits are of having "too much" power)

ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 System Requirements
■PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
■500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode

It might, try it 1st.
