Thinking of getting a new graphics card , was looking at the 1950xtx 512 then i noticed the 8800GTS is about the same price. however I would need a new psu as mines only a 350 watt . This would take me over my budget though .

What psu would you recommend, cheep as poss and quiet as poss ?

TIA

Col

I'm using a Jeantech Artic 600w Power Supply

It's very very quiet, just a little noise at startup then quietens down to nothing.

As you can see in my sig, it's supporting a 8800GTS and C2D 6600 and a couple of hard drives and I've had no problems with it.

Though I don't believe OCUK sell these items. Sorry OC but it is the only component in the PC that wasn't bought from you and I only got it elsewhere because my only one went bang :p

Before they went boom :p However Loadsamoney does seem to go OTT when it comes to PSUs, the Corsair is brilliant but certainly not the minimum for your system. I would be quite happy to run an 8800GTS on my 430w Seasonic or a 460w / 500w Akasa / FSP.

Yeah, I was agreeing about the hipers. I just meant you probably don't need the Corsair to run an 8800GTS, depends on the rest of the system I suppose :)

True depending on the rest of his rig, i wouldn't trust a Hiper though. :p

I am pretty much in the same spot as the OP, but I am looking at the Seasonic M12 series. Would anyone recommend the Corsair over the Seasonic?

I agree with Loadsamoney on the PSU front... it's the one component I have never skimped on after seeing a PC go "boom".

I have always had a very good PSU and have been happy in the knowledge that it will never hold my system back and any problems are likely to be other factors...

I say, stump up the extra £30 and always get a PSU that costs closer to a ton.

I promise you will always feel happy with your choice!! ;)

I've had no problems with my Hiper! (Touch wood)

I read a review of Hiper psu's and apparantly they were the most sold in europe, maybe thats why theres more people on here complaining about them, because more people have them! And read many reviews of them been very good!

Hmm . well i sent a web note asking them to swap the psu's , I ordered on monday and wanted delivery on weds , im hoping they with change it .

For a powerful Grpahics card you want more than just raw wattage.
500 watt is the bare minimum, but you could get away with that, or anything more than that provided you have more than 26 amps total on the 12v rails....
