Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my 7800gtx to a 8800... Will my 580W Hyper work fine, or should I upgrade it? I'm running four HDDs, a DVD r/w, DS3 mobo, 2GB RAM, Tuniq Tower, E6600 oc'ed to 3.55GHz, etc. etc.

Get rid of it before it blows for a Corsair 520w, Hypers are going boom all over the place.

Do a search for Hyper in the General hardware section.

Yes it'll be fine until it blows and takes his whole rig with it, they are terrible, they are the new Q-Tec's, do not trust a Hyper or you will be sorry, as i said search for Hyper in the General Hardware section, theres thead after thread of these things gone BOOM!!!!!.

Shame really as they are nice looking bits of kit and very reasonably priced for a modular PSU. Of course if they are badly put together then good looks and price are irrelevant.

i've had a corsair for a week or so and got on with it really well.

seems very well made, is very stable and comes with plenty of cables etc
The Corsair PSUs are incredible, and I'm not just saying that because I own one. They're actually manufactured by Seasonic, and I think that someone on this forum said they're an improved revision of the M12 model PSU. :)

As for the topic at hand: Gray, your Hiper PSU will easily run an 8800GTS. You might want to read up about the problems they've been having recently, as LoadsaMoney suggested, but I wouldn't get into a panic about it.

well mine powers fine and i'm only using antec smart power 450w, i think thats what it is called.... the one that comes with the antec sonata II.

had no probs, but will change it once i can afford to run SLi.

I have heard only bad things about Hyper PSU's.
I run my GTX with an Enermax Liberty 620W.
The rails on this PSU are rock solid compared to my last PSU (Antec Trueblue)

realistically you'd need 15a available on the 12v rail to power an 8800gtx. believe it or not, they hardly use any more juice than the x1950xtx's (around 20w more). but because they have that second power connector, everybody went nuts with psu requirement. btw x1800's use more power than an 8800gtx.

you do NOT need a 600w psu for 1 card. a decent 600w pus will power a pc with two gtx's and leave room to spare.
