I was wondering as i need a replacement PSU for my old Hiper, i was wondering what you would recommend... I'm after something modular really, the Hiper PSU kept my case looking very tidy with it's quality cables in my Eclipse-62 case, also looking for something as quiet as possible as at the moment the PSU is the loudest component in the case, louder than my 7800GTX.

I had a look at the Tagan TG580-U15 580W ATX2.01 and the Thermaltake PurePower 680W ATX2.0 - majority not being modular... but can anyone else justify spending a bit more to go for the Enermax Liberty or the Seasonic S12 600W? bearing in mind, it might also power a x1900XT in the future....

Anthing from: Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, FSP, Tagan.
No need to get anything more than 500w unless you plan to get sli/crossfire.

Seasonic are the quietest but all will be quieter than your Hiper and probably quieter than the 7800gtx too. They will certainly be quieter than the x1900XT if its using the stock cooler.

I was considering the Sparkle, but not too sure if they are quiet? i mean i can tolerate the Hiper PSU (before the ticking and the rear fan started making noises)... but something quieter would be nice, and not known to tick :p

which Antec PSU would you recommend? Hopefully after a reliable PSU, my Hiper just seemed to deteriorate after such a short period... and if im going to get a x1900XT, i rather get a near enough silent PSU as possible as i heard this graphics card is quite noisy as it is with the stock cooler... ;)

any specifics? cheers

Sparkle are a division of fsp so they would be decent quality, but probably not that good for low noise.

All the psus from the manufacturers i mentioned including sparkle/fsp will be quieter than a x1900XT stock cooler, so unless you intend on getting an aftermarket cooler for it, there isn't really much point paying a premium for a silent psu such as a seasonic.

Take your pick, i said 500w but i would actually choose something 400w+ as that should be plenty of power.

Antec TruePower 2.0 430W and Seasonic S12 430W are good deals, the seasonic is particularly cheap for what it is and for this model you don't seem to have to pay a premium for low noise, however neither of these are modular.
If you want something as cheap as possible FSP Sparkle ATX-400PNF 400W is the best decent psu you can get for the money.

Tagan TG430-U15 430W is a good modular one, as is Enermax Liberty 400W. If modular is a must i would get that Tagan.

I'm not actually after something as cheap as possible; budget is still slightly flexible, and there is the possibility that i will get an aftermarket cooler for a proposed x1900xt, however i feel at least 500w would be better - i know that there's more to it than that - and having had a Hiper 580W Type-R before, i rather not settle for anything less. From browsing this forum alone, most people would suggest higher for the type of graphics card and also allows for opportunity for Crossfire/SLI in the future. Thanks for the suggestions, i might go for the Seasonic S12 600W as i know someone who has it, and seems to be doing well with it.... :)

You might be interested to know that the according to the reviews the Hiper only delivers around 430w.
