What PSU is needed for SLI 470s?

Id say that your current hx should be fine, Rroff is running two 470's on a 750w psu iirc, using an hx850 here myself.

So i wont need to upgrade my PSU? So often you hear the 400 series need 850w to 1000w of psu power.

Your psu will be fine, the recommended power that Nvdia and AMD set are over exaggerated.

You also have a quality psu which you will probably find will run a little higher than 750w

This ^
Can't blame them though, I suspect there will be people buying graphics card updates for their pc world ("gaming" 5770+i7 rigs @ £1400 lol) machines with low quality power supplies - the extra wattage is there for a quality buffer; if I am making sense ^_^

One warning though, your top card will increase a fair bit in temperature, i solved this with an extra fan right behind the cards.

i had a hx 750 when i first had my 470 gtx sli it ran ok but i found as i overclocked it did stress the power supply a bit best off upping to a 850 or 1000w supply

Lol,sorry 1000w is way too much for GTX 470 SLI and not needed, while i agree its always nice to have plenty of juice spare,1000w is way over the top.

850w is more than enough if the OP wanted to add more juice to his SLI setup,if he thinks his current 750w will struggle, which i would say it wouldn't with a 750w top quality brand which he currently has.

1000w may be overkill but when it comes to the next upgrade he won't have to splash out on another supply

But he will have to spend a minimum of £150+ for a 1000w psu on top of the price of the new card for something he wont need:confused:

What other upgrade could you possibly get to justify a kilowatt psu, apart from adding a 3rd 470?

Makes perfect sense:rolleyes:

I'm running 2 on 700watt - I don't reccomend it tho - for stock you'd really want 800-850 and possibly 900watt if your planning on really pushing the overclocks on them with an i7 based setup - my Q9550 uses quite a bit less power.

Overvolt them as well and you're right on the edge, don't risk it, you can hose the PSU and mobo, i've done it myself.

So upping to a 850w will do the trick then? And setter i will no doubt upgrade my case to a corsair 800d and get a asus rampage 3 and space the cards out.

it will be fine. only issues you'll have is if you oc your i7 high and both 470s. and the issue would be fan noise more than anything.
