Hi

Just knocked up a little pc .
Spec
i5 3470
8gb ram
1 x ssd
bluray writer
1 hard drive
msi gtx 770 oc edition
3 case fans
h61 motherboard

I need a psu but don't want to spend a lot but also don't want to get a cheap one. What would you recommend for this set up. The concern is the gpu , msi says 600w min with 42amp 12v rail, would i get a way with a good 550w psu.

Also does anyone know if the cougar psu's are ok

thanks in advance

Look around for the cheapest Corsair CX550 (grey label not older green label). CP-9020121-UK

They have a 5 year warranty and are pretty much the go-to when not wanting to spend a lot but still get something decent.

It's a bit confusing the way they've worded it. But it has a simple explanation behind it. The first requirement "600W" is for those who may not bother checking the +12v rail/s amperage. Most "600W" cheap rubbish PSUs should be able to cope. The second requirement is the one to focus on really, as no matter the total wattage in the PSU name, it's the +12v rail/s that count. A decent 500W PSU will have more +12v rail/s amperage than a bad quality 600W PSU. So again, ignore the first requirement and focus on the second requirement.

I've owned a Corsair CX600 for the last 6 years and it's been great apart from needing a fan change as it got noisy. Other than that it's been great, the model does get some stick I've heard online. Touch wood.

ok

Cougar GX-S 550W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply or Corsair CX550 550W 80 Plus Bronze Power

any one using cougar's...can not seem to find any reviews of this one

Corsair TX550M better than either of the above. Nice 7 year warranty, and can be found for under £60.

Jonnyguru.com has a review of the GX-S 650.
