What purpose is such a cable.

What on earth is the world coming to. I am in the process of getting a Molex to a SATA Connector and it seems to me that the only place who actually sell the right thing to do the job is ******'s. Everywhere else only sell you things that simply do not work, and to be honest whoever designed such a connection personally needs shooting.

The type of connector sold here on Overclockers and anywhere else which is a 4 Pin Female Molex to a 15 Pin Male SATA Cable does not contain one bit of logic to why on earth it is sold. For starters there is no such thing as a PSU that has Molex connecting blocks that are Male, they all have Female connecting blocks on them. There is also no such thing as an Optical or Hard Drive that comes with a Female connector, they all have Male connectors on them.

So for anyone who has just purchased such a cable I would like to know for the life of me just what use it is if any. Because you have just purchased a cable that you simply cannot even connect 1 of it's ends never mind 2 of them. It's totally pointless and a complete pile of junk of a cable.
 
That certainly does not look like any Male Molex. The Male Molex is the bigger block the Female Molex slots inside it. The Male Molex also has rounded pin heads not with holes in them like the Female.

Today I purchased 2 Block Connectors which have a Male Molex on one side and a Female SATA Power Connector on the other. No cables on it, it is very much just a block with 2 ends on. The description on the packet states clearly what they are. And the Male Molex definitely has rounded pins without any holes in them.

Now with that picture there it's perhaps hard to see, but that certainly looks like the Female Molex to me.
 
The pins on the male connector fit inside the sockets on the female connector.

Indeed that's dead right Surveyor, and the cable looks good and would have done the job perfectly. It just strikes me why on earth they would make one that a Female Molex connector on one end and a Male Sata Power connector on the other end. Why sell such a cable. And to be honest most of the cables for sale are of this type and not the one shown there.
 
Well I do care to be honest, and when a website like Overclockers are selling a product and have no description on it, and you have to judge by the picture on there site which is nowhere near as visible like the ones Surveyor has posted here. It's really a bit of a bummer because for one thing, you do not not want to waste a couple of days waiting for it to arrive only to find out you have got the wrong connector.

They say Rome was not built in a day, but with this poorly displayed product, the chances are it will not be done in a week either.

"PSU converter cable to allow non Serial ATA compliant PSUs to power SATA drives."

It's clearly stated what it's for. That is indeed what it is for. What's the problem. No one is going to buy that adapter for anything else, other than the description.
