Hi guys

Got on of these for my brother as a home pc for net, burning and office stuff but it only has 512mb RAM in it, any one know if I could just get 2gb cheap DDR2 and pop it in?

Found this on a website -

Technology
DDR II SDRAM
Memory speed
400 MHz
Memory specification compliance
PC2-3200
RAM form factor
DIMM 240-pin

What do you think?

Does the curent memory have a label?

If it is PC2-3200, then some PC2-4200 would do the job as PC2-3200 is very very rare.

Hey Cob

Yes it states PC2-3200 on the label, suppose the bay is the best place? Unless OcUK do it?

EDIT: Found 2GB (2x1gb) for £22.99 + £6.00 P&P PC2-4200 :)

I had this problem a while back with a desktop GX620, although the speeds matched, (DDR2 533)the RAM I bought did not fit, the slot was about a millimetre out. Someone since said that Dell use their own proprietry RAM. dunno how true that is.
If I was you, I would buy from one of the big name RAM companies who usually have a certified Dell RAM category, thats what I ended up doing, then you know it will fit...
Just my tuppence worth so to speak...

I would assume they would be fine.

Tho it's been a while since I worked with memory in a Dell, but AFAIK they stopped using proprietry components.
