Hi, am in the middle of making a new system and i would like to know is supper high speed ram really needed.

i am using a AMD FX-6 6350, motherboard Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, not yet chose GFX but will be around HD 7870.

for a system like this what speed ram is best. in my current system i am using 1333mhz but i see not you can get all the way upto 2400mhz. would my choice of parts need a super fast ram

I have run Corsair Blue Ram @1866 and also have run it @1600 ..and I noticed no difference what so ever , so I put it back @1600

And the Ram I'm using right now is also @1600...and again..no difference

that dont really help dose it.

Well if you read some comments regarding FX chips much benefiting from faster ram and thought "niceeeee ill get some 2400mhz" then yes, it does help because that ram would not work and now you know that, and it was apparent from your original post that previously you did not realise that restriction.

CAS latency of 9, the lower the number the better. ocuk has 1600MHz at 9 and 11 - avoid the 11 (it's the first number of 4, e.g. 9 9 9 27).

so the XMS3 that is 9 9 9 24 is ok?

it 2 x 2gb and i will get 2 kits for 8gb

When overclocking, i found FX CPUs disliked using all four DIMMs and made it harder to achiever higher RAM clocks and would even sometimes clock down from the stock RAM speed when going from two sticks to four.

This and the possibility of adding more in the future combined with the fact that RAM is cheap, i would recomend getting 2 x 4Gb sticks for now.
