Gigabyte GA_P35_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Any advice would be much apreciated.

I will be overclocking and im going to be using Vista ultimate
.

I would like to know if GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC) Is any good for overclocking, Plus is it compatible with the gigabyte board cheers in advance.

Any recommendations on 8500 ? And thank you for your reply m8.

I Will be buying my new rig next week...

the Crucial Ballistix 8500 2GB is a great choice as recommended by many but OcUK has them around £45 more expensive than some competitors for some reason.

cool, Always been a corsair man. But i have to look at other options, looks like the gap has closed if not any at all.(well thats how it seemed)

2 gig enough to run vista 64 ? I know everyone recommends 4 gig, but could i get away with 2 gig for a while.

Was thinking of going for that geil to get 4 gig of ram, plus vista ultimate then upgrade too ddr3 when, it drops in price.

Was thinking of slamming GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC), into the system and see where that got me. Just looking to OC the Q6600 to 3gig.

Cheers for the reply lads most gratefull.

if the CPU is 1066FSB, get ram that is 1066FSB, saves any hassle :D

black dragon geil is supposed to be good and its quite cheap!

Don't confusing the FSB of the CPU with the system. A 1066FSB CPU actually has a clock speed of 266Mhz
Therefore, you'd need the minimum of PC2-4200 (DDR2-533) and this runs at 266MHz (533MHz effective).

I said minimum on purpose, of course you are better off with RAM with higher speeds to aloow for some decent overclocking. PC2_8500 is just an overkill tbh unless your are running extreme with watercooling etc..

I've written a little giude here. May be useful.

Sorry for hijack, but very nice guide Huddy. Appreciate the time you took to write it, I have never understood DDR2 speeds and that makes it much clearer.
It should be posted into a thread and made into a sticky.

It did take me a while and a lot of reading up not sure it's worthy of a sticky tbh unless the admin think it would be worth while, i'd gladly post it as a seperate thread.

Ok im looking @ getting 4GiG of one of these.

1. Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4D TwinX (2x1GB)
2. Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)

3. GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

4. CellShock 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit

Looking @ all the info kindly provided by you guys 8500 isnt needed really ?

So i have turned my attention to these 4.

Yes you are right.. unless of course you intent in doing some extreme overclocking. Even the new 333Mhz (1333MHz effective) CPUs only require a minimum of PC2-5400 (DDR2-677). You need to be running your system bus at 533Mhz (2132MHz effective) to be using the full potential of PC2-8500. However, with some additional water cooling who knows.

That said, go safe with some PC2-6400..
