what ram?

I currently have an Asus m4a78e motherboard with an amd phenom 2 cpu, at the moment it has 8Gb of ddr2 ram 4 x 2Gb what ram should I be looking at if I want to upgrade to 16Gb?

What do you use your system for? Majority of time 8gb is ample.

a full upgrade to ddr3-4 new CPU etc it's worth it if you wanna spend the cash
