What recent graphics card are you running in your Shuttle SD37P2 ?

Hi all,

I've been running a Shuttle SD37P2 for about 12 months now and it's been a little gem. I bought it with a BFG 7900GS 256Mb that has been ample so far. I do like to keep things up to date and I was thinking of changing the video card.

However, I am confused about the x8 and x16 configuration of this Shuttle. I'm not clear which it is, and if it's only x8, can I fit a x16 card?

So, what recent graphics cards are people running in their SD37P2s? I'd love to know and how you've got on.

many thanks

I think it's x16 in single card mode, and a pair of x8 slots in Crossfire mode.

I'd recommend picking up either a 2900 Pro or 8800GTX depending on your budget. I think an X1950 Pro wouldn't be worth it.

What do you have to spend?

My usual budget is £125 - £150, but in truth, I haven't paid any attention to the video card market in 12 months. I appreciate there is often a sweet spot of performance\price and if it's a bit higher than £150 then I'd consider it. Anything over £200 is off-limits though.

2900Pro seems to be it then if your PSU can take it, or the 8800GTS if it can't (8800 doesnt have as high power requirements). Both come in about £170 although last time I checked, the 8800 was a little more expensive, although if you don't overclock, which I'd imagine a shuttle would prevent you doing the 2900 is perhaps the better choice for its increased v-ram, and its effectively a slightly downclocked 2900XT.

It's not 100% but it looks like the 2900 Pro may just be the XT core slapped under the same cooler with a different name.

In which case it should be fairly easy to just pump it back up to XT speeds and enjoy the fact you paid £50 less. :)

I don't see the PSU being a huge problem, i'm fairly sure the ones in the SD37P2 are the 400W models. They're certified for Crossfire anyway aren't they? :p

I was thinking more of heat issues, as well as power :) Shuttles plus hot cards might get a little toasty :)

I've been running a 8800Gts 320Mb in mine for around 8mnths. Temps are ok, need to ramp up the card fan on hotdays, other than that It's fine.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll have a look at your suggestions. The PSu is 400W and I don't load it with very much so I'm fairly comfortable there.

Cheers

Those Shuttle PSUs are incredibly good too. Or at least they used to be. I have my Reflexion, which has only a 220W supply, loaded up with a crazy amount of stuff and it still ticks along like clockwork.
