What remote shutter control/release for a Canon 5D mkII?

After playing around with some macro photography I could do with a remote shutter/release to avoid camera shake or alternatively waiting for the timing.

So any recommendations on one that would suit a Canon 5D mkII?

Cheers
Andy

Can you set it to continuously shoot?

So say if I wanted to do a star trail and have it take continuously 1minute long shots, is this doable?

Does it have to be wireless?

Canon makes a Simple IR one that I bought like 10 years ago that works on my 5D.

There's a wired one too for £80.

Nope not fussed if it's wired/wireless, just as long as I can control the shutter whilst avoiding camera shake.

I like the idea of the timed ones that you can set intervals on (like Phate mentioned) but if there is a huge cost difference then I'm not that fussed.

I recently got something like this for my 350d

(mine's not quite the same, there's loads of HK knock offs if you look on ebay)

I can just use it as a 'bulb' remote without batteries. i.e. press the button to take the pic, or press and slide to lock button (with camera shutter speed set to bulb) to take long exposure.

with batteries, I can set timed, or repeat exposures. Have control over the time to take the first shot, duration of exposure, interval between exposures, and number of shots.

So, it pretty much covers anything you'd want to do really. Screen lights up too in the dark:)

Downside of my one is it doesn't have an on/off switch, have to take the batteries out... Bit retarded.

Still, it beats spending £120 on the canon version, mine was £15 and it really doesn't feel like cheap tat. Give it a go:)

Page 233 of the 5D mk II manual shows the system map, which details the different types of Canon remote switches available. It includes wireless and wired remotes, along with a programmable one that will activate at preset intervals.

The RS-80N3 is the simplist wired remote that Canon do, it just fires the shutter when you press the button and can also lock the shutter open for long exposures. It is around the £35 to £40 mark, but there are loads of cheap imitations around the £20 mark that do exactly the same thing.
