What replacement can I expect.

3 weeks ago my PC drank a lot of my mug of coffee. As I have 2X 4" fans in the side and with the PSU fan at the back, I am assuming it just sprayed my mobo etc with nescafe gold blend. PC was on at the time and am sure I heard a pop at the front of the mobo, I wiped away as much as I could see and switched it on the next day and it tripped my RCD.
I am assuming the mobo is gone and maybe more components.
My insurance company are in the process of sorting it out and its in their chosen engineers shop, report should be in on Monday.

Assuming the mobo is fried (which I would think) what realistically can I expect to get in replacement? if you look at the PC spec, I am sure this lot cannot be replaced like for like.

I have/had.....
Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLi mobo socket 939
Athlon 64 4000 (which was running sweet at 2.6ghz)
Corsair PC3200 DDR400 2GB
Coolermaster 480W PSU
2 X BFG 8800GT OC 512mb in SLi
Gigabyte 3d Aurora Tower
Creative X-Fi extreme gamer sound
160GB Sata HD
Pioneer 16x DVD-/+Rw

I think thats it :)
Whats that lot going to get me in todays's market as I don't want to settle for less than I had.

tower wont be replaced. youll get up to the value that it is insured for and not a penny more, need to read your insurance documents for the value. most likely they will replace the mobo and psu and put in a cheap gfx card if HD is gone they will fit it with the same size but not same quality - usually a cheaper version.

It's unlikely to be rated at its true value, as 939 stuff is worth surprising amounts second hand. Likewise 8800gt sli performs well, even now. I imagine you'd have done better selling it on ebay than pouring coffee in and hoping the insurance company is generous.

Really sucks that you'll lose the 8800gt sli. I'm very fond of those cards :(

I think it was insured up to £1200, no less for sure, I specifically said to the insurer that I wanted full cover for accidental damage to my PC and Laptop.
A quick read of my document said new for old but thats where I get stumped, what would they replace it with.

I have lots of spare socket 939 bits also as my son has one in his PC, pouring coffee in my PC? hmmm well I have written off 2 or 3 keyboards with beer before now and this time its got the big one. If I keep my tower in its place its going to get hot, lots of hot air and nowhere for it to go to....... if I pull it out on a rolling shelf, it sucks in fresh air, the back of the tower pulls it out and everything is happier, this is the reason its been covered with caffine, nothing was poured into it.

Well, the flip n sip mug looks a good investment lol, I will keep this thread updated when I get some more info off them. Thanks for your replies.

Surely a new for old policy would replace the enite tower?

You could always spec up a system from here and email it to them

I would expect to get at least a PC with the same performance. I wouldn't take less, if they suggest it, surely you'd be well within your rights to claim it can't do what your old one could.

Your post has just made me think about insuring mine, I have the CM690 case which has a grill over the whole top ( stuff can go through )... and had a chow mein dropped from the desk onto it just last week ( hey... at least it smells nice! ).
It's fine though, but maybe an eye opener to me.

Please let us know how this goes down and if it all works out well, what insurance company you're with.

In my dreams lol, if only!
EDIT: If I had made a documentary on my experience so far with this, some of you guys would think twice about going to online comparison websites. These guys are pretty laughable!

Speak to your insurers as we can take payments from insurance companies for orders.

So keep the dosh rolling into OcUK. :)

And also, OcUK could talk to the insurance company and tell them what the nearest like-for-like replacement would be? It's worth a go, anyway.
