What resolution scale simulates 4k at 1440p?

I've noticed that some games have a "resolution scale" option.

Given that i've upgraded to my gtx 1080 build, i'd like to know what performance i can expect from 4k, but unfortunately i don't yet have a 4k monitor..

Does anyone know what % i need to set to simulate this? i.e. 125% 140% 150%?

I set it to 2.25x in NVIDIA control panel and im getting between 80-100fps in-game, a restart isn't required is it?

Also taking screenshots only come out at 1440p, The game is still **Do not circumvent the swear filter**-Leon beautiful mind!

Once DSR is enabled you should see 3840x2160 in the ingame resolution settings which you will need to set - screenshots will be taken at 2160p but without the DSR sampling - so screenshots won't show how it looks on a 1440p monitor.

Worked a treat thank you, Ultra at 4k i get about 30-40fps on BF1, on high about 50-60.

Quite impressed to be honest :D I am feeling the SLI itch though.

Something's not right here because you should be getting circa 60fps in BF1 4K ultra on a 1080. http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/2652-battlefield-1-graphics-card-benchmark-dx11-vs-dx12

Could be the maths as 2.25 x 1440 = 3240 and 2.25 x 2560 = 5760

3240 x 5760 = 18 million pixels on screen hence your results.

The 2.25x is the area and not the axis scale - 2560 x 1440 x 2.25 is the same as 3840 x 2160.

Working out the percentage for resolution scaling as an ingame option can be tricky as some scale based on area, some based on vertical resolution and some don't even start at 100% = native resolution.

With DSR on you can disable any ingame anti-aliasing as the DSR process naturally does it which will gain a little performance and often on a 4K monitor you can turn AA down a lot or even off without a noticeable IQ hit.

I thought it was about 150%, but now thinking about it I am not so sure, go by amount of pixels being used. At a second glance I think 150% will be 4 million pixels on screen, where as you want the full 8 million. With 1440p being 3 million native.

2.25 would be right, but I think you can only really go as high as 200% on Bf1. Just whack it right up, you'll be getting as close as.

Not sure if they fixed it as I don't play the game but bf1 shipped with some bugs/weird settings for resolution scale - I think 150% is right for other Frostbite engine games but not sure for bf1.
 
Try running a user.cfg file in the BF1 game folder with the 'Render.DrawScreenInfo 1' line in there, worked with BF4.. not sure what the command line is if that works in BF1.

But for BF4, Render.DrawScreenInfo 1 shows the resolution at top of screen with other info.

Using a 1440p monitor you need to use 150% to get 4k.

2560 x 1440 @150% = 3840 x 2160 (4k).
 
Sounds fair enough :)


OK so using 2560 x1440 and 150% resolution scale in BF4 I get around 130 fps , with no AA settings, and the game looks great and plays nicely too .

Ooh this is a thread I am very interested in having put in an order for a 3080.

I have 1440p monitor, but perhaps to get the most out f it I should set my DSR resolution to 4k.

Stupid question (I will try it later) does it actually improve IQ on a 1440p monitor?
 
I'm sure he's figured it out after more than a year :D

Oh and setting NVCP to 2.25 DSR gets the 4k resolution option in game from your 1440 monitor. From what I've heard, smoothness is set 10-20% down to personal preference.

Will improve things yes, it is definitely something worth doing if you have spare power. I wouldn’t recommend doing it otherwise unless you really want the extra image quality as you still have the limitations of the native resolution even all be it upscaled, it still won’t look as good as say a native 4k display.

I used to run 4k DSR when it first came out on a 1080p monitor that looked very good. And there’s a fair few games i upscale with DSR if my gpu has the spare power, BF4 being one.
