Looking at replacing my Router its a warranty replacement Dir-655 done me fine for years but its time to move on from Dlink as a eol router with no updates
Looking at either the Cisco EA4500 or 4200v2 or the Asus RT-N66U

Connected will be Wireless
Windows phone
Xbox 360
Android tablet and phone
Media center downstairs if wifi reaches Dir-655 does but slow.

Lan
2 Gigabit pc's
Synology Nas
Printer via usb
Foscam IP Camera

Anyone recomend one vs other both reviews are always good or should I go the whole hog and go for AC version of either to be future proof?

Fond memories of the RV042 here so I would say the Cisco/Linksys unit.

The Asus might be a cracker, they make great GFX cards but I've had at least two Asus mobos (two generations of chip) with cold boot issues.

Stick to making GFX cards, Asus :p

I'd say they've been making motherboards/laptops/routers longer than they have gfx cards. No problems with my 56u here, but of course that's not to say it might stop working tomorrow!

I'd say the 66 looks better! It might come down to that as performance between all top tier brands *should* be near identical!

Agreed it really does come down to price. I can grab the EA4500 on special offer for £79.99 and can always return it if its crap. Seems like a good shout before spending £120 but I do find myself drawn to the Asus as most reviews state a better wireless signal and I always think that external antenna are better than internal hmm decisions

Another one for Asus here. The FW on their latest models is being updated quite regularly, and Asus Tech Support get involved with their forums, which is great. In terms of wireless range, I've had good results around my house (and outside) with both the RT & AC66's.

The inner bargain hunter in me wants to go buy that ea4500 for £79 but it appears the consensus after reviews and opinions in the asus so I will fight the bargain hunter and grab the asus :)

Thanks
