What router do i need?

Hey, im looking for my first router.

At the moment i just have modem to pc through a ethanet cable.
But i need to plug in a pc and xbox360, as well as a wireless laptop, so not sure which is the best/cheapest to get?

You need to state whether it's cable or ADSL you're using for starters.

Its adsl, NTL 2mb connection

If it's NTL, it's highly unlikely to be ADSL (unless it's a resold setup through someone like Virgin.net), and you wouldn't get a modem with an ethernet connection free.

I'd suggest checking for sure...

How do i tell? All i know that it is the NTL2mb connection, it connects via ethanet from modem to PC

Look at the modem for starters, if you quote the make/model number (that'll likely be printed on it), someone should know.

its a "Terayon TJ210", i googled and apparently its a cable modem.

So you're looking for a "cable/DSL" router, ie one which doesn't have a modem.

Linksys WRT54G (lobotomised)/GS (Speedbooster)/GL (v4 G, will run all the 3rd party firmware floating around) is a well liked suggestion.

Thanks ill take alook, also i forgot the mention that the laptop has a d-link wireless card, cant remember the model right now as a family member has taken it to the libary

As long as it does 802.11b (11Mbps) /802.11g (54Mbps), it'll be fine. I used my WRT54GS with a 3Com card with no problems.
Speedbooster would be a waste of time though.
