I currently have one of THESE

The house I live in has very thick walls and the router is downstairs far away, as a result the signal i get is pretty weak and although it is ok for web browsing its pretty bad for things like skype and terrible for gaming (counterstrike is impossible).

Would something like THIS do?

Or do i have to go for something more expensive?

Thanks for any advice.

Some things you should ask yourself before buying this are:

1) How much faster is my wired connection speed to my wireless speed. If you have significant gains when wired, then you need a router upgrade. Whats your max download speed of your phone line.

Check BT and Virgin websites to test, dependant on who your line is with.

2) what other wireless devices do you have in the house that could be causing interefrence

3) does your PC support wireless N technology? If not, save yourself some money. Bare in mind if ur PC does support wireless n technology, whenever you have a device connected that doesnt it brings your router down to normal wireless standards.

go powerline if you want to game, walls are no barrier and it's low ping.
If you must have wireless, go powerline and connect it to another wireless AP to put in your gaming room.
