Picked up some PC3866 for my R5 1600 system (yes i know Ryzen won't run that speed but it's future proof and we don't know what Zen2 is going to bring...)

Obviously i can't just turn on the XMP and let it run as my Asrock AB350 Pro4 board just sits there restarting for a minute or so trying to find some settings that work and eventually boots with the default 2200(ish) setting.

I've tried turning on the XMP (18-19-19-39 & 2 dozen other settings that i don't recognise) and slowing it down to 3333 but i'm getting slower Cinebench and PerformanceTest9 scores than the Patriot Viper 3200mhz that i'm replacing :(

I've heard great things about the speed of this stuff but i'm not able to reproduce the results on my machine.
 
Which kit did you get exactly?

I would be trying the stilts timings for 3200 first, see if can get that working at tight timings. Or even the 3466 ones.

Well, i've had no joy with this stuff since last night (when it arrived). Even when it does boot @3466 it no faster than my old stuff @3200.

It's going back.
 
I have 8 pack ram, albeit the 3200 version. I set it to manual, set the timings as 3200 fast settings above, 1.4v, 1.4v boot voltage, 1.0 soc, speed to 3200, rest of the settings as per stilts 3200 fast above and it works well.

Can you not get it running at C14 at all?

(one benefit of the CH6 board is it has the Stilts timings setup as profiles :))
 
Got the 3200 fast and 3333 fast to load, the 3200 results were slower than my Patriot 3200 and after a couple of BSOD mid test the 3333 is showing a few percent faster.
Was really hoping that getting the omfg faster sticks would give it more wiggle room on the clocking, i'm not seeing result better than my old stuff (which would do 3333 if i turned up the volts)
My mobo doesn't have any ability to change the figures on the right hand side of the settings list.

8pack mentioned in another thread that this stuff would do 3466 (and 3600 if it's the right phase of the moon) and i was hoping to get something nice like that, doesn't help that my R5 1600 is a terrible overclocker, maxed out @3.7 with 1.4v and i was hoping a boost to the infinity fabric speed would help the cpu.

Also definately not helping that i'm trying to sort this between cleaning up puke and changing nappies and helping with the colouring in (home dad style), i know this memory is supposed to be awesome but i'm not able to get it to show it's colours, just very frustrating, this stuff was some much easier when we were clocking slot celerons and AXIAs.

Might be best if i step away from the keyboard for a couple hours i think!
 
How are you testing if it's faster? If you are just running bandwidth tests then you might not be getting the full picture, some of the settings make the bandwidth appear to drop or stay the same, but actual performance in game increases.
 
For Ryzen the 3200 kit and the 3600 kits have better SPD timings. I suggest just switch to 3200mhz kit and OC it.
