Had a brain wave to my upgrade.
And really can't deside what's best to get.
Mostley gaming and internet.
I've read the 8400 will go up to 4GHZ, and i'm sure that will be good for games

Will it be the intel setup ?

As for the AMD setup, (which i like) what kind of clock speed could i expect to clock this to ?
and would the pc bootup with out me having to flash the bios. as i don't have an old AMD2 cpu to beable to flash it, to make the AMD Phenom II X3 Tri work. i only have a old AMD64 X Opteron 142.
Also, what's the difference in the 2 motherboards ?
Link to both ?

And what would be better ?

Thanks a lot :)

for gaming Intel Core 2 all the way. Great spec and really sweet mobo. Would get a Noctua cooler that comes with Fan and thermal grease. As good as the TRUE, if not better imo ;).

First and foremost - Intel out of those two. Had you chosen the Phenom II 940 then it wouldn't be such an easy comparison.

Secondly: You've chosen an excellent CPU cooler there but don't forget to get atleast 1 if not 2 good 120mm fans for it. The Thermalright coolers don't come with fans, and they make a big difference. Recommendations: Sharkoon Silent Eagles, Scythe S-Flexs, Noctua NF-P12s.

Thirdly: The AMD CPU you specced is AM3 socket and both of those mobos are AM2 so that setup wouldn't work any way.

defo the intel set up and if you shop around that exact bundle costs less then £395 so great performance per £££s

I did look around for cheaper. not much luck.

I have Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound.
will it be better then the thermal grease.

Intel it is then :)
I'm sure it will be a big upgrade from my 939 system lol
Would my 8800GTS 512 be ok with this setup if clocked to 3.6 maybe ?
I won't get that bottleneck like i do now will i.

Artic Silver is fine, I have used that as well, was just saying there is no point in having to buy it with the Noctua if you didnt have any.

I can't imagine the e8400 @ stock speed bottlenecking a 8800gts or even 2 ;). e8400 should not bottleneck any gfx card. I have a e8600 @ stock and it is not bottlenecking a 4070x2, even when I OC the CPU there is no discernable difference and I have gone up to 4.7ghz
