Ok so santa... joking, anyway my parents said what do i want for christmas, anyway the question is im lost for choice atm,
Its either upgrade my E7200 oc @ 3.0ghz (intel) or upgrade my gpu Nvidia GeForce 8800 series 512mbVram. Now i am playing the current GTA IV which imo has been poorly omptimized but other games such as LOTRO, Far Cry 2 and future game releases such as the WH rts etc (even crysis i spose) i want to play with minimum hassle atm i play all these on high, not GTA IV which is just a pain for most PC gamers even the new Nvida GPUS and the i7 i hear. so what would you say i upgrade to, i have a budget apparantly of 100 from my mum and a bit more knowing my nan lol... :p but obviously being the nice person i am i dont want to fleece them aha, so im looking at around 150 AHAHA, thats between two people :P ahah.
Any input would be great thanks,

What size of monitor are you using? It'll determine whether or not an upgrade in the graphics department would be worthwhile. I wouldn't bother with upgrading the CPU, the 7200 is still a good chip. How much ram have you got? might be an idea going up to 4gb, that's if you havent already :p

already got 4 gb m8y, and the current monitor is 20" running in 1280 x 1024.

I wouldn't bother upgrading anything at the moment if you're only running games at 1280x1024.

Surely though a 20" monitor should have a native res of 1600x1200 if it's an old crt or 1680x1050 if it's a newer widescreen lcd panel?

Yeah, a 20" monitor should have a native resolution of 1680*1050, if it's widescreen. To be honest I don't think you'd see a big difference between your card and a 4850, whether it's a GT or a GTS. Are you finding any games struggling with your system, with GTA IV being an exception here :p

I'm still waiting because hopefully when the next batch of cards arrive the current ones might come down to a reasonable price. I realise there's not much chance of reduction due to exchange rate etc. Still sucks though.

I have to agree with the above, a 4850 isn't a big enough upgrade over the 8800 to warrant that level of spend.

Perhaps you can negotiate that you'll return what you sell your 8800 for which would then stretch your budget to 4870 1GB / GTX260 (216)

If you're saying 20" then I'm guessing it's an older 4:3 design, not a wide screen?

What are the rest of your system specs ... a fast new HDD might be nice
