Hi All,

Just wondered what I should be paying for new Rear Discs/Pads (Fitted) for an Octy vRS?
Pads still have meat on them, but it has been indicated that almost certainly I should be getting the rear discs replaced before next MOT (and everything leads me to wanting to replace pads at the same time).
Not confident enough to consider this work myself.
I think Skoda themselves want high £400 for all this. Contacted a local "VAG Specialist" who have quoted me £315.

I don't have any tame mechanics to just supply the parts to.
Just wondered what I should be shopping around to achieve price wise?

I've just not had to buy any brake parts for my last two cars before this one, so a little out of sorts on cost.

Cheers.

https://www.clickmechanic.com/ is always a reasonable shout to get some indicative pricing for jobs

And https://www.eurocarparts.com/car-parts is mostly a fair idea of what the actual parts cost might be.

"Fixed price" offers from main dealers are sometimes worth a shout on higher performance models of "normal" cars (assuming your car isn't specifically excluded), as they often average the cost out across the models (e.g. the parts cost for a low end Octavia will be considerably less than the fixed price, whereas for a VRS it might be very near or even more than the fixed price cost)

Id get a parts/ labour breakdown and then you'll know if you're being charged reasonably.

Brakes are indeed quite straightforward, however rears can often be more difficult as they tend to wear more slowly and can sometimes be really stiff as they're replaced less frequently.

Plus what @ci_newman said.

Seems Expensive to me.

Stick you Registration into any parts place and check prices of parts. Disks and Pads for OEM Quality Like Brembo / Blueprint Etc shouldn't cost you more than £150 (Even thats an over estimate) So that means the "VAG specialist is charging you £165 in Labour"

Any competent mechanic will be able to do brakes, yo dont need a VAG Specialist. And saying and at most it should only take 30-60mins per corner in Labour depending on how easy everything comes apart. Source your own parts. Contact a few local mechanics and ask for their going labour rate.

I got all 4 done on my 2006 STI Impreza with Mintex Disks and Pads and fitting for under £400 here in Northern Ireland. Mechanics all have trade account sand trade pricing and will charge you inflated parts price for the privlidge of them ringing a supplier and giving a red and asking for "the cheapest"

Yeh it is expensive. I found the brembo rear discs, assuming they are the 272mm ones for £45 for the pair delivered. Plus some pads at...£25? And a wear sensor at.... £10(?) means the total parts bill is £85. Leaving £230 for the labour!

No different to the front, barring the handbrake. I use a Carista to wind back mine, otherwise it's a simple job.

Yea but if you have no experience.

I try and DIY what I can on the cars and motorcycle, I did the rear brakes on my Volvo which is the first time doing them with a EPB.

I had a diagnostic that could operate the EPB and did it, but it say if you don't plus no experience I wouldn't say that was easy.

Even then it took me a while because the diagnostic is fussy, there are 4 "states" if you like, parking break on, parking break off, service mode on, service mode off.

Which is fine, but if you try to go out of order, eg say from service mode straight to parking brake on, it ***** itself and just says "communication error" I thought the thing has died, took me a good 15 minutes to figure out that you have to change it one step at a time in logical order.
