Hi guys,

Been completely out of the loop. I've heard that Win8.1 has some issues affecting mouse movement. This is a gaming PC and I just want to check if I should stick with 8 or directly purchase the updated version, Win8.1.

Just to make sure I got things right, if I do buy Win8 I could freely update to 8.1 in the future, am I not?

Many thanks

I would go with 8.1,as to mouse lag it depends on game in question however hotfix patch from Microsoft you can get in this link which shows games effected http://blog.gsmarena.com/microsoft-fixes-gaming-mouse-lag-in-windows-8-1/ .

Personally not had any mouse issues with 8.1 and I game a lot.

Another reason I say 8.1 is because a clean install of 8.1 is better then going from 8 to 8.1 upgrade.

You get the free update so buying 8 gets you both sort of :)

Regarding the mouse lag. There are a few issues.

Mice are locked to 200mhz in 8.1. The hot fix does not sort this, but I believe you can manually fix this by the registry. Not tried.

Most, if not all games that don't use RAW mouse settings suffer from lag. The patch fixes some games. The rest you have to do manually.

More annoying though is the DPI scaling in 8.1 is horrid. On my 27" screen I have this set to 115% whch causes stretch problems icons/bookmarks in firefox. Not a problem if you use 100% scaling.

Due to the above I've resorted back 8 and everything is running as it should.

Cheers man. Reading (a bit) into this ouse lag issue it seems it specifically affects older games, which I certainly don't play so I think I'll be fine. I could also apply fixes if necessary too, so I'm going with the 8.1 straight away. Though thinking of delaying purchase a bit as I'd prefer to find a suitable deal for 8.1 cuz paying ~£70 is not really the best option for me.

Playing Tomb Raider at the moment which I see is one of the affected games.

Havent noticed lag in game, but I have noticed odd mouse sensitivity in the menu's in game (like camps etc...)
