Hi again, here i am crawling from one forum to another asking for nuggets of your knowledge :)

As some of you will be aware i am currenlty going for a new system based on the E6600 Conro chip. Still to decide what GFX solution to go for. Which card/s currently represent the best power/money pay off.

Im currently running a 6600GT which has been great value :)

Also (if i could be so bold) could you recomend a MOBO to go with it (conroe supporting of course)

thats the big question isnt it

Idealy no more that £250/£300 but like i say im trying to find the sweet spot on power/pound i could go higher just starts to hurt more if i do.

Asrock ConroeXFire-eSATA2 (Socket 775) PCI-E DDR2 Motherboard
Price: £51.95

Connect3D Radeon X1800XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E (this week only)
Price: £129.95

Subtotal: £181.90
VAT: £31.84
Total: £213.74

£100 more will get you a HIS X1900XT with IceQ3 cooler I think.

Edit: This would be better: -

Ah, gotcha'. ;) I'd still recommend the Asrock mobo and HIS X1900XT with ICEQ3 though, great buy. If you want to throw more money at it then go Crossfire. :D

Isn't that board a poor overclocker as there are no BIOS controls for core and DIMM voltage. I'm thinking that the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 would be a far better board for the enterprising overclocker with 1 graphics card. The GA-965P-DS4 is more expensive but it has multiple PCI-e slots for Crossfire.

Hmm more stuff to chew over, ive never had a Gigabyte board are they nice? (well built, stable, nice accesories?)

EDIT

Also what is the difference betweern the DS3 and the DS4 please

256Mb ASUS 7900GT, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1440 MHz, GPU 520 MHz, 24 Pipes, Dual DVI-I/S-Video

It's about 204 I think inc p&p

OC's to 1600 Mhz and GPU 550 np.

Look around for a X1900XT-X, i picked one up for £300 couple of days ago! First time ive shopped away from my beloved OcUK.

I fell out with ATi after the 9800 the softwear to run them seemed clunky and had a lot of glitches, have they improved?

i did look at the x1900 xt-x but ATi hurt me before i dont want to be betrayed again :)

Ive always had NO problems with ATI drivers, they have become a lot better now though. With new features coming out all the time.

looks like i may be going back to ATi then with Intel Snubbing SLi at the moment, though with AMD picking up ATi i dont know how long that will last.

Feel free to corect me on the AMD aquiring ATi (saw it on a news page)
