What should I do this summer?

Hi all. My current summer plan is to go back home and work on the family farm over summer until university starts back up in September, but it will probably result in me being bored and fed up.

I want to go off and do something totally different. Volunteer work abroad, normal work abroad, random cheap travelling, whatever. I've got about £1500 in the bank.

Spec me summer plans. I need to find inner peace and be at one with myself. :)

Thailand.

Emirates have a sale on flights at the moment. Etihad had some 300 quid flights but that was from Switzerland

Anyway, can you drive? If not, learn! (It's what I'm doing... :o)

I can drive, yes. I'd consider buying a car and driving round Europe if a) I had any friends to split fuel costs with and b) fuel wasn't so bloody expensive. Think I might struggle with this one with only £1000 to blow.

You could do an amazing trip around Italy for a couple of weeks. I went for 6 weeks and spent £2000 with flights not being thrifty in the slightest but staying in hostels. I have so many good memories of that trip!

Italy is such a great and easy travel destination, no problems with language barriers, general safe but some truly outstanding places to visit that are all close (no more 36 hour coaches, I'm looking at you Brazil!).

There are cheaper places to go, but honestly, this would be an amazing thing to do :)

interail Europe a few days in each capital city and some hostels. Might bump into some characters. Might get shived in some back street German ally. win+win fun +fun

This is the kind of thing I would love to do, I'm just too skeptical about feasibility. Anyone got any experience of it?

What do you mean? Book a flight to Athens or something, book a couple of nights in a hostel and then go and explore! Move on when you get bored.

Have you looked at Camp America?

Might be worth looking into. A friend of mine is doing this for 9 weeks. Hopefully it's not too late to apply.

Otherwise, travel, lots of travel. I have to do that in small chunks now because I'm at work full time and could only get 2 weeks off at once. Unless I pack it all in. But I can't afford to.
