What should I do?

I just got my AS results and they werent what I was expecting. I was expected to get an AAA.

Politics - B
History - C (I got a B for the Russia module I sat in Jan)
ICT - C (Got 3 marks of an A for the module I sat in Jan)

I'm totally taken back by these results. I really thought I was well-prepared and did well in the exams. Especially the ICT final module. Coursework was to be expected, hate doing documentation.

Im taking up Film Studies AS next term aswell.

I am going onto uni next year, but I'm not sure what course to take. I'm interested in taking Computer Science (need CCB), but Im afraid it'll be too like A Level ICT. Then of course Im totally unsure as to what career I want to be aiming at. I love Politics and I'm really disappointed in not getting an A.

Can you guys give me some ideas?

Also how many AS modules should I re-sit? I really need to re-sit 1 ICT paper as it is a total crap mark.

Thanks to any helpful replies.

Hmm, I don't think I'd worry. I got a D, D, E in my A level's - not fully understanding this AS modular thing the governments got going though, as I'm old school.

I got into Manchester Uni through clearing and ended up with a Bsc 2:1 Hons, so all is not lost yet. Have to say, I felt the same as you when I got my A level results too.

I'm sure others will have suggestions who understand this AS modular thing better than me.

No offence matey by ICT is a complete doss compared to Computer Science as a degree.

The AAA you expected, was that in line with what your tutor was telling you? If so you both need to sit down and see what is going wrong if you want to recover for the A2.

As to resitting again sit down with your tutor and see what direction you want to take. Resits are always a good chance to have another pop at it but there are two issues. First it takes time and causes more stress, and you need to honestly ask yourself that if you retake it are you confident that you will get a better mark.

I thought that but I have no idea what to expect.

Yes, I was predicted to get that.

might be worth getting the papers back, to see where you went wrong, and whether it would be worthwhile to get it remarked.
Didnt know you could get the papers back? But yeah I really do want to see. Shall I phone up or just ask for it when I start back?

Sorry to hear about your results. That's one hell of a drop.

See were you went wrong and get it sorted. Am sure you can still secure a place at University. You've managed to get 200 UCAS points, which can get you somwhere, even if they require 240. When it comes to clearing, they aren't too entirely bothered providing you are near the requirement. Plus, I've recently discovered the people who are operating the clearing hotline at my University are run by students. Some of them I recognise and didn't do entirely well themselves :P

The alternative is to do what I have done. I messed up my AS levels a bit, so decided to give it a year, took a gap year, applied september just gone, adn have a place at Bristol university for this october.

I have really enjoyed my gap year, taking the year logner to think about what I wanted to do has helped me to make *** right decision about what course and what university I wanted to attend, and I have ended up with a siginificant amount of savings for university, which no one will know about, save me.

I think you have to go through your exams officer a school/sixth form/college. I also believe it costs a few bob, but not much if I remember.

@Socaddict: That really isnt an option for me :(

What uni courses would be suitable for me to do with the A level courses I'm doing?

Politics and history scream a politics degree to me, though if you want to do CS (and a lot of other subjects) it doesn't really matter what subjects you do unless you want to go to Oxbridge or one of the other top ten unis. I can't advise on politics having done a CS degree, however I would say that while its always good to get advice from us guys here, sit down with your family, and also with your tutor and see what you want to do in life.

I knew a lot of people who dropped out after the first year of uni and started again on a completely different course because they were not really sure what direction they wanted to take in life.
