hey there.

this is my situation, i have 2gb geil, which has incompatability issues with my asus p5w dh deluxe, so im running my ram @ 5-6-6-18 @ 389mhz :(..

and i want to go up to 4gb, so should i sell these sticks and get 4gb of somthing else? or should i sell my motherboard and get a new X38chipset motherboard and get 2gb more geil ram which will work fine with the new motherboard?

which would you do?

thanks

Edit: its my birthday on the 12th, so ether choice i can do without no bother, but even so id like to keep price to a minimum if i went for a new motherboard, as long as its better than my p5w.

975 doesn't very much like running with 4 sticks of RAM when heavily overclocked so to get 4 GiB you'd have to get 2x 2 GiB. If it were me I'd skip the X38 and head for p35 territory where it'll get along nicely with 4 sticks of Geil, will overclock well, and will cost a lot less than X38. The IP35-Pro is a great mobo.

are the p35's not older tho?

when i buy a motherboard i like it to last, where as the x38 would last a while, two x16 lanes, 45nm support, pci-e 2.0.

i have thaught of another thing, i could just buy a 2nd lot of 2gb for the 35 pounds that they are (i baught mine for 200!) even tho the timings arent great, and then just wait untill motherboards are cheaper when 45nm processors are here etc? because the timing incompatability isnt really effecting me tbh.
