hi,

i have a bit of a problem...i was gifted a system by a family member with the following specs: asus p5n32-e sli plus mobo, e6700 chip, 8800gtx, SB x-fi sound card, matching 2x1gb ocz pc2 6400 4-4-4-15 nvidia sli ready mem sticks. all i needed to add to the system was an os, hdd and psu.

so i bought win 7 64 bit, 2x seagate 7200.12 500gb and 500w modular icute psu. the problem is...
bios does not see hdd's. it is the latest bios revision which has been flashed by myself. i have swapped sata cables and power cables to make sure they are not faulty with no success. i know the hdd's are good cause they work on another pc, a newer i7 setup(not mine unforetunately).
strange thing is, when i connect 2xocz 30gb ssd in raid 0 to said system, bios sees it and windows will load. in desparation i have tried another mobo and get exactly the same problem, no hdd's in bios, but ssd still detected when connected.

any idea's on what the problem is anyone?
my next course of action is to buy an i5 760, asus p7p55d-e mobo, ocuk crusade 850w psu and 2xgeil 2gb 1600mhz mem sticks.

A cheap PSU is your problem. Like you said, you tried swapping everything else... HDD, mobo etc.

I presume the SSD's are getting power because they require a lot less power to operate unline mechanical drives.

Try another PSU. a PSU with the word "Cute" in it, was surely a give away :P

thanks for the replies, i must admit the psu is likely substandard and i have read some of the seagate forums but have not seen those particular posts. my brothers i7 setup is fine with the new hdd's as i've got 1 of them formatted and working on his system. which suggests psu problems as buchanun suggested, going to try removing soundcard and graphix card and running off onboard gfx to lower power usage and see what happens
