Ok so last month i built a custom PC with 2 hdd's

One is a 64gb OCZ Vertex SSD (Windows booting)

and the other is a WD Caviar Blue 500gb Drive (Storage).

I am getting fed up of having to move stuff over to my storage drive all the time and i'm getting problems with the shut down times as Takes around 20 seconds and my laptop and even my mums old laptop takes around 8 seconds to shut down. Another problem i'm getting is with the windows updates , They seem to take ages to install and configure.

Should i just format and take out my SSD drive and just buy another 500gb HDD and put it in Raid0? Would that solve my problems i.e will it be combined into 1 hdd instead of having 2 different ones that you need to swap files from all the time?

Thanks

RAID0 combines both HDDs - so it's effectively one, you'll have a TB HDD spread out over two disks.

It will be faster than a single HDD, but no-where near SSD speed and it's rather risky as they have a tendency to fail.

What do you mean moving stuff over to your storage drive? Can you not select which drive you want stuff to install on, or save on? ;)

Have you tried formatting the SSD and re-installing Windows?

Hi ,

Yeah i have heard that they can be faulty. I have changed the download locations etc to my storage drive but its the other problems i've had and yes i've formatted it and installed windows now 3 times and still problems arise.

Its the least i would've expected as i spent a fair bit on everything and to be honest i should've listened to my bro and got a macbook lol. Windows eh

Thanks

Also when i save settings in msconfig (Boot) to use Maximum memory (4096mb) it saves then it seems to reverse changes.

Not sure whats happening but i am not keen on SSD's

Ok i just formatted and removed my SSD. and i'm installing windows right now onto my storage drive.

I will probably use the SSD in my laptop or something

SSDs in laptops are pretty awesome. Still suffers for capacity problems if the laptop is used for work and medias.

Hey Oli just to let you know windows is up and running and its loading faster than my SSD was and the updates run very fast :D

Just gotta install everything again now :(

Can i use my windows license on my pc for my laptop also? But i would know how to transfer everything to my SSD because i have all sort of HP tools on there etc

what is your spec, were you using it in a marvel controller slot? what files were you constantly having to move? Is it Win 7 your running, and did you use it to format the drive or something else, and did you run the windows experience index so that windows configures itself for being on an SSD?

run ATTO benchmark to check how its performing.

Its all out of my system now and its running perfectly from my WD Cav blue 500gb drive so i'll probably sell the SSD on ebay or somethin
