What should I get - iPad, Tab, Slate? Or wait?

Hi,

I'm just wondering if I could have some advice on a tablet device.

I have roughly £400 or so to spend in February but I'm still unsure which is the best tablet/smart phone. I know I want a smart device with a large screen, but they aren't exactly cheap and I'd like to get the best I can with the money I have.

Should I wait for a month or two and see if anything is released?

Any advice would be great.

And if this is in the wrong forum section, could a mod move it to the correct one? Thanks.

Having just bought an Advent Vega for £250 I'd highly recommend it. The Android OS with a tegra dual core 1ghz CPU make it a powerful and flexible device, using the Modaco software update and its got everything I need it a tablet/slate device.

While I agree to a certain extent, I would only recommend one if you're happy having a fiddle and putting up with a few minor issues until roms/firmware updates sort them.

Saying this, I had a play on an ipad and while I was really impressed with the smoothness of the device, and the rather lovely screen, I still wouldn't be able to justify the price of one. Or really want one, but then I am a bit if a geek and like messing around with devices like this.

P.s. I'm browsing on my Vega now, truelly it is a brilliant thing for the price.

I would wait for the time being. Android's new tablet Honeycomb edition will be out in the first quarter of '11 and most of the tablet manufacturers will be waiting for it to ready before they launch their new tablets. Ipad 2 will be available by May/ June and will hopefully have dual core processor, also the Blackberry Playbook should be available in March / April 2011 and could be a real dark horse, the leaked videos of it look very promising, good multitasking and full Flash support.
I would keep your powder dry and wait out for a few months.

The tegra chipset is the standard for gingerbread and honeycomb so the Vega should be compatible with android for the forseeable future.

CES starts soon 6th-9th Jan 2011. It will be interesting to see whats announced for fall release this year at the show and will give a good indication of what direction the tablet market is taking.
