What should I upgrade cpu or gpu?

Hey guys I got that upgrade bug and I am trying to workout what would be a better upgrade. My cpu is a AMD 64 3400+ with 2 gig cheapo memory and my graphics card is a nvidia 7800gtx I only game at 1280x1024 as my tft is a 19incher. I like the eye candy set to max. Almost all of my games run ok but the new company of heroes game will not run very well with the teaxture size set to max and of course oblivion runs okish so I am looking for a upgrade that will let me max out COH and oblivion and any new games untill DX10 is out.

Clock the cpu. ;)

I take it you have either a 2.2ghz/1mb L2 cache Clawhammer or a 2.4ghz/512kb L2 Newcastle on 754. Or maybe one of the rare 939 3400+'s. Anyway, overclocking it should give you a boost for free. Cheapo ram may not neccessarily hold you back either. I had value ram that would happily clock to 250mhz with an increase in voltage to 2.7v.
 
Think your wasting your money with any upgrade tbh, you won't get vastly difference performance without something like a 3 Ghz Core 2 Duo and Crossfire X1900 / 7950 GX2, a new graphics card will be a boost sure but worth the cash right now I'd say no.
 
Well, if I were him i'd probably look to get a cheap dual core processor that he can overclock. That's if he's on 939 of course. Upgrading from a 7800gtx will be pricey if you want to see significant gains and a 3400+ will hold anything more powerful back anyway.
 
hey all thanks for the info I think I will get a Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT-X 512MB as I should be able to get about 100 notes for my 7800gtx so its only going to about £150 out of my pocket. Then upgrade to conroe in the new year does this make sense or should I just jump to the conroe now?

ps my cpu is skt754 so theres almost no upgrade path for me

Sounds good, Oblivion should be much nicer to play too.
