I have 3 reliable PC's used for lan gaming

In my signature

Id like to max out the GPU's..I think adding a faster cpu to match the 980ti and shuffling the other parts around is the way to go?.....budget would be about 300

Im not so sure...I'm pretty sure the 980ti will be heldback by the x5860 and im certain the 970gtx will be by the q9550

I wondering if I should add a i5 motherboard and ram maybe 3580k or ryzen to match the 980ti and move the 970gtx to the x5860 if you see what I mean

With the clock speed of that Yorkfield (FSB clocking giving also other help than CPU clock) that Xeon likely doesn't have much better single thread performance.
Nehalem (whose die-shrink that Xeon is) wasn't really that much about improving gaming performance from Core 2.

While not up to Coffee Lake Ryzen would have lot better IPC while having cores/threads.
Also AMD has confirmed using current socket to 2020 so Zen2 architecture CPUs are going to allow possible upgrade.
If you can wait little Zen+ with manufacturing process and internal tweaks is coming in couple months likely narrowing single thread performance gap to Coffee Lake.

But at the moment price of memory is really high with memory chip maker cartel having increased prices for over year so that £300 budget isn't exactly good.
Just check how much 2x8GB memory costs.
