What should I upgrade?

Please bare in mind I can get windows 7 on an academic licence which is about £50.

You sure you can't get it for free? If you're at university (don't think this applies to colleges) you should be able to get access to MSDNAA which has free copies of Windows and other MS stuff.

I have 4 free Windows 7 licences and 7 free Windows Server 2008 R2 licences. :D

the benches are great and everything but i max out wow with great fps with a phenom II 955, id rather go with amd if i were you and spend the extra on a better gpu?

i put the 700w psu because 500 is out of stock and 700 is the same as the 600?!?!

i put the 6950 in there to show you top end of the budget, but this can be replaced by the msi 5850, and save nearly £100, i have a 5850 and the 955 and max out wow, fps hardly ever drops below 60.

EDIT: change out for the 5850 to fit in windows 7 and a cpu cooler.

Ask your IT department or, better yet, the IT guys in your own department. Each department at my uni has different MSDNAA services (with different software) and luckily for me, I have access to two at once...for reasons I cannot discuss here. :p

theres this option if you go with slightly older stuff, but is still really good.

got a crossfire ready mobo, 2 msi 5850's and athlon x4.

this will eat any game out there now on high settings.

I do only play wow everything else is on the xbox :P

But I think I have the set up I want....

That should eat up WoW quite nicely..

Then try and get Windows 7 Free!

I'll try and sell my old bits seperately to raise some cash and hopefully buy after xmas when sandybridge and with a bit of luck it will drop in price a bit :)

Cheers for all the help and advice!

EDIT: I could go i7 but I don't want to sacrifice the other components for worse ones to go up to i7

the mobo is quite overkill, you can save yourself £30 or so by getting something that doesnt support x fire and like i said and others will, amd is bang for buck, youd get similar performance from and amd system with a significant difference in price.

Would the amd last as long? (Performance wise)

I saw it was only £40 less and I am still in budget which is why I opted for the i5

The reason for the mobo is....I like pretty mobo's (mobo's is not a spelling mistake for mofo's ;)) and that is damn sexy!

I don't want an SSD yet, they are nice, but for WoW not really needed and they are damn pricey!

yeh its sexy but it doesnt bring anything more to the pc, the amd will last as long as the i5, the intel chipset is gone after christmas, amd's new chipset will be compatible with am3 mobos so you wont need to change as much, and like i said with the money left over you can overhaul the rest of the pc or buy and ssd for an even bigger boost.

This part interests me a lot, i think I will have to sleep on it and have a think!

I'll read up on the AMD a bit more...

Thanks for the help
