What side intake fans and filters 300R

Hi.

Got my H100 working nicely now.

Fan setup:
1x 120mm front intake
1x 140mm front intake

H100 on roof (exhaust)

1x 120mm Corsair AF120 exhaust rear

I want to add a side intake fan and maybe two dust filters to stop anything nasty getting into my 300R case. Anything you recommend?

Yes, I would use filters on all intakes. The back vent with no fan may not need a filter but it's easy to check. Use an incense stick or cigarette and see if smoke goes in or blows away from vent.

I use cheap kitchen scouring pads 15x23x5mm from cheap shop for vents without fans.
Silverstone magnetic mount filters on intake fans. Would like to have DEMCiflex filters but more expensive and Silverstones do a good job.

Usually they are on back and there are edges they can be wedged into. Cut big enough so the just push into place. Have also used Blu-Tack (can get different colours). They come in all different colours and the thinner/cheaper the better as that's less resistance to airflow.
 
Sorry just saw they are magnetic. Ordered x2 140mm and x1 120mm. All inlets covered then. Would it be best to change the 120mm at the back as an intake once the filters are in and maybe add another side intake as well?
 
Yup! As long as you don't have an aluminium case. :d

Changing back to intake may indeed help cooling, but may not too. Same with side fan. You have the back fan to experiment with.
You can try:
* Back vent with no fan.(just unplug it)
* Back vent as intake.
* Side vent as intake.
* Side vent as exhaust.


To monitor how case is cooling a cheapo indoor/outdoor wired remote digital thermometer works great. You can monitor what the temp of air going into CPU / GPU cooler intakes actually is. Refrigerator or terrarium thermometer of same basic design work good too but I like being able to monitor the temperature near computer when checking inside temps. Can be had for £3-4 on auction site. Twist a piece of insulated wire onto the lead to sensor and bend it to fit sensor about 20-40mm in front of cooler about 1-2". Set the readout where it's easy for you to keep an eye on to see what the air temp going into cooler is at idle and load. They shouldn't be more than a few degrees warmer than room.. 5c at most. Every degree warmer is a degree warmer the component will be.
