Need to upgrade my power supply as the one i have wont power the graphics cards and hardware i have got my current power supply is rated at

550Watt

+12v = 24A max
+5v = 40A max
+3.3v = 32A max
-5v = 0.5A max
-12v = 1.0A max
+5v/SB = 2.0A max

my following system is as follows

Abit KN9 SLI mobo
AMD athlon x2 5200+ AM2 @ 3.3ghz 1.475v
4gb Geil pc 6400 @ 941 2.1v 4-4-4-15
Zotac G-force 8800GTS NV92 @ 700/1728/2000 wont go higher till i get a better power supply.
XFX G-force 8800gs 384mb @ 680/1700/1800
2x 80gb sata hd's in raid 0
1x 250gb sata hd
2x dvd writer
hauppauge nove t-500 dual digital tv tuner

1x 20cm blue led fan in front of case
1x 14cm fan in back of case
2x 8cm fan in side window
usb webcam
bluetooth
wireless keyboard dongle

thermaltake big water 750 watercooling setup which consists's of the following

dc-1 pump
2x 12cm fans on dual radiator
1x 12cm variable fan on single radiator

the XFX G-force 8800gs is not installed yet as i plan to use it as a physics card and want to make sure i got enough juice to power my entire rig before i install it.

for the moment i'm thinking of powering the xfx from a spare 350 watt power supply with a 16A 12v rail that i have, as have found out how to wire two atx psu's so the second power supply turns on when u switch the main system on

any input would be appreciated I'm thinking a 650 to 700 watt power supply would be ok but i need it to be silent and would prefer modular also

thanks

steve

750w should be fine for that, I don't know how much power the thermaltake big water 750 watercooling uses, but the rest isn't going to be a problem for a top end 750w PSU.

If he goes for a new high end card, the M12D 850w is the best quiet psu going at that power level, or go for a 2 PSU combination.

yeh like a 400W for cooling and 650W for the rest of the system like the corairs init but then he'll have to source the dual mobo cable connector to run 2 psu's with one mobo

I would suggest a Enermax Revolution 85+ 1,050W - very quiet 135mm fan and plenty of stable power - if you got £200 odd quid to spend.

(BTW - I would appreciate it if you could let me know how to power up a second PSU from a primary)

thanks Guys will have a look at all the recomendations but my budget will be around £80 should have mentioned that in my original post.

I will have a google for the site but basically u have to splice into the green wire on your psu and connect it to the green wire on ur secind psu and then splice into any one of the black wires on the primary psu and connect that to one of the black wires on the second psu

thanks

you wont get a GOOD silent psu at 700+W for £80 thats modular. you need to look at second hand stuff, or compromise quality if you budget is firm.

the closest is probably the pc p&c red quad crossifire jobby, but not modular, and definitely not silent at high loads.
