Daft title, but I had a skip delivered on Friday which looked smaller than the 8 tonne I had ordered.

The skip measurements are

  • 180cm wide
  • 101cm High
  • 310cm long

Problem is, I can't find any skip with those dimensions to confirm what I've got. Anyone got any ideas?

Surely 8 tonne is the weight limit not the volume so size is not relevant. The volume of the skip is important as it measures how much you can get in it. 8 tonnes of feathers or 8 tonnes of lead against 8 cubic metres of either.
Andi.

Large difference actually. Assuming it is a regular cube shape (I know it is not - but bear with me)

Ops is 5.63 m3, the other is 8.26m3

The 8 tonne one you posted is 1.46 times larger.

Of course, depends on the design. Plus, was it Ton or tonne?

I didn't do the calcs, but I'm surprised it's that much bigger. Oh well :)

I suppose this is all irrelevant. OP - do you have the spec of what you ordered? Is the size/name/model/reference stamped on the skip or your paperwork somewhere?

It also states below that

NB All sizes approximate as skips may vary in size

Which is fine, but surely they can't vary by around 2.4 cubic metres when he's paid for an 8 cubic metre one (despite the order/invoice saying 8 ton/tonne, the site does say 8 cubic metre).

I'd hope not anyway.

OP: Does your skip have that handy opening door to wheel a wheelbarrow in? Pic of you doing this please.

Surely the answer is that it's too small given their website shows the sizes as:

CAPACITY 8m3
HEIGHT 1.22m
LENGTH 3.66m
WIDTH 1.8m

That website isn't where I ordered it from, just used as reference point as the company I ordered from doesn't state dims on their website.

To be fair you could but 8ton in a bucket and class it as an 8ton bucket. I've never seen them measured in weight either, always yards.

Don't hire skips from ******.

Sounds like a nice earner for them, charge by weight and send a small skip, you can still fit 8 tons in it if your scrapping lead, knowing full well most loads are high volume low weight.

Can't blame the skip companies for coming out with smaller skips these days, always the first thing people do when they get one is prop old doors or pallets at the sides so they can get more stuff in, ignoring the fill-to line.

Also on the other hand, most skip companies are dodgy. I hardly ever see one complying with the law when I see one dumped on the road/pavement.

Where I work all are skips are charged by the weight of the rubbish you put in it...;)
