I would like a 22" er but i dont think my x1950pro would be able to use 1600x res all the time especialy for test drive unlimited which has to be 1024x res to get 30+ fps with hdr and 4x aa on. So what would be a good size to get keeping in mind i want a much better work space for desktop usage over my current hansol 19" crt monitor which i use 1280x1024 res for desktop.

well you've got no choice really. :p

19in widescreen 1440x900

you lose 124 pixels in height but gain a little width (i'm happy with my 19in widescreen but people quite often moan about it when they're used to using 1280x1024. another thing, you shouldn't be using that res on a crt - that's 5:4 whereas a crt is 4:3 - should be running 1280x960)

20in widescreen 1680x1050
22in widescreen 1680x1050

so you might as well go for the 22in. you'll just have to turn down a few setttings. or maybe you can game at a non native res? might be worth waiting to see if someone can recommend that. :)

Screens don't look that bad out of their native res. I've played load of games in 1280*800 on my Dell 2007WFP (1680*1050 native) and they all looked excellent. For sure it looks a little softer, but no more so than a CRT for instance. People are way too hung up on this native res thing.

Also you will probably have the monitor a lot longer than the video card, so personally I wouldn't let your video card dictate which monitor to buy.
