Hi guys.
Due to the way the circuits are laid out in the house, the circuits trip fairly regularly when my computers are on along with things in the kitchen. It's driving me mad as I often lose work, have my gaming session abruptly shortened, and have the constant fear that one day I'll turn on the PC after a trip and it wont turn on. I have my PC using my iMac as a monitor so obviously both computers are on at the same time. My rig has a power supply of 850W and my iMac uses between 180W and 350W (idle to max). The specs for my rig are in my sig.
Now the thing is, I am looking for a UPS that can keep these two devices running for anything over 5mins when the circuit trips. The only problem is, I have no idea what sized UPS I should go for. I'd imagine that when I'm gaming the total wattage would be around 900W, which would perhaps mean I should get a 1500VA UPS just so I don't overload it. The thing is, those are very expensive and people seem to be posting reviews on websites where they've used a 700VA UPS with an 850W PSU in their rig. Also, should the power go, I would most probably stop my game straight away making a 1500VA UPS overkill when my devices go down to idle power consumption. What should I do?
Just to clarify though, the circuit also trips when I'm not gaming, but my main concern is when it trips and I am gaming because that's when the UPS is most likely going to overload and fail me.
Any help would be appreciated. As you can probably tell, I know very little about UPS's so could do with an expert opinion.
Regards,
Mike
