It's been a while since I've played any skateboarding games, however, used to love the Tony Hawks series back on PS2, so I'm looking for whatever is the new kid on the block, seeing as that series seems to have stopped!

I see there are quite a few alternatives on the market now!

What is considered the new king of that arena that I should buy?

I also note that Tony Hawks HD is coming out in the summer, so this will be a nice prefix to that!!

I'm using a PS3 by the way!

Tony Hawk's HD? Is that gonna be a proper ground-up remake of the original or a brand new game?

EDIT: Just looked it up, sounds awesome. :)

Wow, never realised they were doing this, it does indeed sound awesome :D.

I spent so much time playing the Tony Hawk's series when I was younger, really hope this remake is good .

I just hope that the labels/artists can come to some sort of agreement because we really need songs from the original soundtracks in the game! Also some Tony Hawk's 3 levels wouldn't have gone amiss. The L.A level with the earthquake, the cruise ship, the level in Canada with the huge skatepark and the mountain parts, the airport level, suburbia level... Nostalgia. :D

Who else used to create ridiculous levels? You know what I'm talking about, having a quarter pipe, a little run up and then like 50 stair sets. :D

Deffinately give the skate series ago, it's a shame they stopped after 3 as skate was one of my yearly purchases for console game. Skate, Skate 2 and Skate 3 can be bought fairly cheap now a days and you may get all 3 for the price of a new game.

I would start by playing them in order as they did tend to get better as they went on imo and if your use to to the likes of tony hawk it may take a bit of getting use to but once you do you should enjoy it regardless of how good you are.

I wasn't great and struggled pulling of some tricks on the right stick, being left handed didn't help but I got better as the more I played. Some of the game can be a real challenge but satisfying when completed. You can spend hours just roaming around trying different skate lines or setting them up and the online can be fun also. Though I had a few issues with playing some of the online dlc on skate 2 as I would often be disconnected when entering the dlc's location.

Certainly worth a look imo & I might have to re purchase them at some point as nothings come close to the skate games for me since they was released.

I only played the first Skate game and on the whole I thought it was a fantastic and refreshing experience. That said I still found certain parts incredibly frustrating due to the imprecise nature of doing tricks with the analogue stick. If I remember rightly there was a challenge on a rooftop of a car park where you had to grind this rail and then do a 360 flip as the exit move, the grind was slightly annoying because it had to be a specific type of grind which I had trouble pulling off and then the 360 flip was a goddamn nightmare for me personally.

Also, every time I tried to do a complex flip trick I'd end up failing and just doing a standard pop shove it or similar. I swear no amount of practice made me better which is probably why I never bothered with 2 or 3. It helps hugely if you have a couple of friends that you can play online with too. :)

I've played all the skate games are I would recommend them over any other esp over Tony Hawk, you think you enjoyed Tony Hawk but that's because it was pretty much the only skateboarding game however nowadays when you play both e.g. Skate and Tony Hawk you will realize how much better and realistic skate is.

Aww man tony HD will be amazing I got tony hawks ps1 on ebay for a quid to play on the ps3 so cant wait for HD
