What small PC?

Depends what the usage is going to be.
Personally I like the aopen mini pc as they are absolutely tiny but you wont be gaming on one.

If this is for uni, my suggestion is to spend about £300 or less on the PC and with the rest buy a used IBM x40. The thing is bloody indestructible (I've stood on mine with no damage), weighs just over 1kg and has an excellent keyboard.

with £300 I'm sure you could manage a good matx/sff with 3ghz+ c2d, 2gb ram, 500gb hdd. my 2pence

Little bit of gaming, mostly desktop. Unfornately the Aopen won't be suffice. But I love the size of the thing.

What's the size difference between matx and shuttle?

Not much, you are better off going for m-atx then you can use an atx psu, which means if you do wana game you can get a good graphics card and wont be just limited to cards that draw small amounts of power.

Can you spec me up a micro atx rig? Appreciated.

Something with an attractive case. I like the look of pretty much everything +£74

Needs to be something I could take as hand luggage on a plane or post.

Seems all the SG-- cases from Silverstone are good and around the same total dimensions. Which is the best as the SG01 and 03 are the same price here on OCUK, but I found that SG02 for £48!

Also how does it stack up to say the Lian Li PC-V300B? Very attractive case.

If your saying shuttles cannot handle high powered equipment then I beg to differ. Ive got 3 HDDs, a Q6600, 4GB RAM and an 8800GTS 640mb in mine.

I love the look of the small Silverstone cases, not sure how much they are though.

Thanks Stellios. I really do prefer the Shuttles as they are smaller and more attractive.

Similar to your build.

I think I'm going to order today. Any improvements and compatible?

The only thing ill warn you about with the SP35P2 is that its picky with RAM, so id put a decent brand of RAM in it. Ive got OCZ in mine (4x1GB) and ive had to put the RAM to its max safe voltage to get it stable, but its been faultless since.

Other than that, that build looks fine.

Oh thats ashame, what was your conclusion? I take it you recommend it? What do you think about the noise (other reviewers say its quite loud)

It is quite loud mate, im not going to kid you, but its not that much louder than an Xbox 360 (when its at the dashboard), its certainly in no way annoying IMO. Its the PSU that chucks out most of the noise on my system.

Conclusion basically was Id recommend it, as long as you know how to use the BIOS as I had to play with the RAM voltages to get it 100% stable and you can change your system fan settings in the BIOS too.

Build quality is nice, and the aluminium finish on the front is very nice. Working inside the shuttle is interesting, only because as you can imagine its pretty tight, and youll need a reasonably long philips screwdriver to get the heatsink out for the CPU. First day I had it I spent ages just playing with the CD drive, as its mint watching the drive just appear out of the case.

One thing is will give it a massive compliment on is wiring, the cables are already placed for you, and they are neat as hell, all you need to do is plug the power plug in and off you go, no mucking around tidying wiring around the case.
