Hi, i am looking to upgrade my motherboard as i have a phenom II x2 550be processor. Ideally im looking to be able to unlock the "dormant Cores" when researching about i checked my system with amd overclock which said my cpu was socket am2+ (940) Then with cpu z I was told Socket am3 (938) Also the package is "callisto" if it helps.
I have ddr2 memory also and my system is water cooled so im not too worried about any extra heat so far. I seen this motherboard asus m5a78l m lx amd 760g uatx motherboard Would it support my chip and would someone explain how i come to know what my cpu actually is. Ie, is am2+ just am3? Also if i bought that board would it support my ddr2 memory? If not im looking for an alternative... Thank you!

That's better :p

Wait for someone else to confirm this, but I am fairly sure that board will only
work with DDR3.

RAM isn't too expensive to buy though, you can get 8GB for around £40 last time I checked, if you are only gaming you can get 4GB and that will be fine too

I believe your processor is socket AM3 but these can be used in AM2+ motherboards.

Given your mixed readings you probably currently have an AM3 processor in an AM2+ motherboard.
