Bought a family laptop because my son (12) is in a robotics program with high schoolers and he needs the laptop to do research and contribute to their online forum and have access Google docs and ms teams when they don’t meet in person.

Is there a recommended software that can be downloaded on the laptop (windows) itself that we can add restrictions to content?

We looked at Bark but it seems you can’t just put it on the laptop itself and it’s more of being monitored when you are on your network at home.

He will be taking the laptop with him to meet with his group so we need something physically on the device.

I really appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!

Check your wifi doesn't have some form of built in protection and age profiles for devices. I use Deco network for wifi and all my daughters devices are limited in what they can access via wifi. Seems to work OK.
Would put more protection on the device but she's very sensible tbh.

OP wants something on the device to keep content filtered when away from home. Something like pi-hole wouldn't work, without a VPN.
