Just thought i would ask as i am sure there are a whole host of programs people use to do different things. 90% of people [me included] will just fire it up and let ZPlayer or whatever you have installed run a movie, im sure there are people here that use their HTPC's to do allsorts of things.

So what software do you use and whats it used for? Be really useful for me as i do fall into the switch on/ play movie brigade.

What advantages does that offer over just using windows to do all that? Have seen xbmc mentioned a few times on here and assumed it was something to do with the xbox!

uhhh no, where you have got this ridiculous stat from ? lol - let me guess your head?

i think your find most people here, run xbmc or a variant of it. Why? because its really the only decent media solution around and from there you can watch movies/tv/play games/browse forums/youtube etc etc.

Maybe because you will find that there are people alive with HTPC's that dont actually use this forum, shocking i know :)

Having a quick read up on the xbmc forums, it does look quite nicely put together.

I installed XBMC but, if im honest i cant see how having it is any easier than just having shortcuts to media on my desktop. Maybe im missing the point.

I think it is because it looks good. Easy to navigate and you can customize it to how you want.

Easy to use views. To see all your films, music, information about that.

A lot easier to search as well if you have 300+ films.

Just finishes off a HTPC well I think.

I will stick with it as im sure i will find it more useful as i navigate my way through how it works and what it can do. Just a shame that i cant integrate my TV card into it.

Will take a look at it over the weekend, i must admit having everything accessible from one place is a nice prospect.

Ok figured that out! Now another issue, when i goto run icefilms or any other app within xbmc i get script errors and it does nothing, anyone else had this?
