Hi all,

Ok i am totally new to photography, dont know anything besides point and shoot.

I have a massive 21st Birthday party a couple weeks ago and just got the CD full of 500 pictures from the photographer. There amazing quality as they have been taken on one of those fancy expensive cameras. Must be about 12+ Mega pixel there about 4-5 meg a pop!!

Ok so i wanted some software and hopefully a good beginners guide to messing about with them. My sis wants me to improve one of her pics by getting rid of some of her spots and there is a pic of myself and i have a black mark on my pink shirt as my pen leaked that i want to fix.

I know this can all be done. And i know that i wont learn overnight and it could take me hours of messing and i might still not get anywhere.

But i was hoping someone would give me some advice on how to start learning.

Thanks

Photoshop
Photoshop Elements
Lightroom
Aperture
The GIMP / GIMPshop
Paint.net
Picasa
Irfanview

Those programs / packages are all worth looking into depending on what you're looking for really. Some are able to do touching up whereas others will only do general levels, saturation etc edits of the images.

You might also want to make sure that you have permission to edit these photos - don't forget the copyright is with the photographer, even if you've got them on CD.

Assuming you want free software your best bet is probably Paint.NET

or you can get the GIMP, or a 30 day trial of Photoshop.

Cloning is pretty easy once you get the hang of it, it'll only take a few minutes to figure out how to do it in your chosen editor, but it can take a lot of time to get photos looking exactly how you want, although what you have mentioned doesn't sound too difficult to sort out :)

If you google for a guide on cloning in your chosen editor you will find some guides, eg for Paint.NET - http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/en/CloneStamp.html
