what software for recording sound clips of dvd ?

I used to have a creative soundcard that came with software to record whatever audio was being played at the time, i used to it take samples off movies and use on my mobile.
My soundcard isnt working anymore and im using the onboard sound on my shuttle, is there some software that can record whatever audio is being played at the time ?
