Hey all,

I'm looking to use my computer as a guitar amp. This is mainly so I can add some interesting effects that my current guitar amp doesn't have (delay, interesting distortion, etc) It's also so I can record what I play onto the computer and upload it to a website.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Amplitube works quite well, but a software moddeler is never as good as hardware like a pod or vox, or multi effects board.

yeah, i'd get a Pod, run that through your soundcard to your amp. logically, i can't see there being any problem with that, but since when do computers function logically?!

Proabably best to get a Line6 POD as already suggested. Could also get a Guitar Port as this allows for loads of software based effects.

Alternatively, you'd need a good low latency sound card and the latest version of Guitar Rig by Native Instruments (I think it's Guitar Rig 2). Amplitube is pretty good but nowhere near as good as Guitar Rig. Don't plug your electric guitar straight into the line-in on your souncard, it will sound rubbish because the impedances are all wrong.

Edit: Sorry... missed the post above. Are you suggesting

guitar->POD->Line-in->Line-out->amp

That doesn't make any sense if it is what you meant. You can use the POD between the guitar and amp or between the guitar and PC, it probably would be possible connect to both PC and amp at the same time but that would require a bit more thought.
