What software to copy mp3 into an ipod ?

I've been using Winamp for years and if you get a plugin that allows you to copy music onto the iPod. Playlist or single songs. And you can also take the music off the ipod using Winamp ;)

Ohh and btw, I hate iTunes too :p

Gotta agree with Chiribo. Winamp is pretty nice anyway but with the ml_ipod plugin it rocks!

I've been using EphPod for about 3 years since I got my 1st iPod. Initially I went looking for an alternative because I hated MusicMatch Jukebox (as the Windows iPods were bundled with at the time) and now I hate iTunes so I'm still using EphPod.

Could I just ask, hopefully without causing an arguement, what exactly about iTunes you guys don't like?

Personally, I've used it since the day my iPod arrived and I think it's fantastic. It's integration with the iPod is (as you would expect) seemless and I have never had an issue with it. In fact it makes buying songs I want a little too easy!

What don't I like about Itunes?
Where to start :D
1. Likes to re-arrange my whole meticulously arranged & classified music folder.
2. No support for defining a file as an audiobook- I don't want the huge amount of music I've ripped from CDs interposed with chapters from books
3. Yet another app, I use Realplayer gold for playing music/ vids and have no need of any more!
4. Why does it have to have no decent support for skinning?!
5. I don't want your dratted service running all the time, adds at least 10secs to the bootup while it figures out that I don't have my Ipod plugged in/
6. No facility for automatically creating playlists per album/ folder.
7. No integration into Windows explorer.

Will that lot do ;) - I use Anapod explorer.

Personally i think itunes is a great piece of software.

1. Sorts out my music files without me having to bother.
2. No silly little dockable windows aka winamp and getting annoyed when i try to scroll down the music list with my scroll button and turn down the volume instead.
3. Love the new ministore, gives me links to music i never even knew about.
4. Nice tidy GUI, i mean seriously, who needs a pause button AND a stop button?
5. excellent ipod sync.
6. one click ripping and burning.

itunes is perfect for those who just want a nice easy to use program that does what they want without any hassle i.e most computer owners. I think only the techie crowd would want added functionality which is fair enough, but for mr bloggs on the street itunes is perfect. Plus it promotes legal downloading which i'm a big fan of, gone are the days when napster etc were the only options for mp3's, now a legal market is around i'm fully for it.

Because (for any reason) I might want to pick up the song from where I left off!!... Pause does that!... Stop returns it to the start of the song!!... :p

I've used winamp since v1.4 (I actually paid for it back then too as the 'Lite' version was not as good!!!) and v5.1 is the business!!... Used Musicmatch (Got rid of that asap), Used iTunes (got rid of that asap!!), Used Realplayer (Ditched that when I found LOADS of Spyware!!)... don't even use WMP cos thats poo too!!!... only other player I have is K-Lite Mega Codec!...

and the ipod plugin just makes it even beter!!.

^^ What that man said.
Great piece of software. Also really like the SQL backend that allows media to be streamed from the iPod through a web browser without having to copy it over first. Means that media can be streamed across the network if need be without moving the iPod. Also much better at retreiving album art if you have a newer generation iPod. Interfaces direct to amazon and downloads the artwork accordingly.

i just got my first ipod this weekend and i hate itunes all ready. mainly because it messes up all of the lists and filing from wmp which i use on the pc. i want there to be an album artist category like on wmp but itunes just has artist which means that on compilations or particularily hip hop cd's then the artist isnt always the same. it might be tupac\dr dre then the next would be tupac\snoop but it would list them seperately on the artist list which means u can have a ten track cd that when ripped has about 8 different artists. is there anyway around this?

im also looking for a program to rip dvd, mpeg, avi etc to mpeg4 has anyone got anysuggestions?

cheers

I've had no problems with iTunes :)

I seem to hear "Likes to re-arrange my whole meticulously arranged & classified music folder" a lot. To me that's people not looking in the settings properly, as it has never done that to me ;)

iTunes + iPod with Autosync is second to none, it's when your music collection outgrows your iPod that it become a bit annoying (hate Drag & Drop).

The world would be a better place without skins.

This place needs a flamethrower emoticon ;)
My whole machine has been carefully skinned into Vista style black (The one off CrystalXP), & I don't want a white/ light grey proggie messing the whole style up.

I know perfectly well that it is possible to turn off the organisation of the music folders, but my point is that it should be off by default, not on!!

Autosync? The fool who wrote it seemed to have no notion that there may be stuff only on the Ipod, which you still want to keep. If I want to autosync, I want to keep everything unless I say otherwise!

While Realplayer may be overfond of attempting to open ads etc, a little editing of the hosts file cures that, and it has by far the best library function of any player that I've come across- Been using it scince the Real Jukebox days, but have never found any spyware.
