What sort of damage have I done to the car?

A couple of days ago I hit something doing 100 kmph basically a big plastic block full of sand (about the size of a sand bag). They are used to hold up temporary signs and road lane dividers on the motorway.

The impact killed my tyre and dented my alloy. The funny thing it that my side indicator seems to have been knocked out also.

What is the chance I have done something serious to my car?

6 + cars did the same thing as me

If you damaged the wheel, then you may well have damaged the suspension. You'll at least have put it out of alignment I'd have thought.

You could have bent the chassis via the suspension with a frontal force on a wheel. Which would mean it may need jigging, or if the car is older, writing off. Not to mention any sort of damage to the suspension from a simple drop link to alsorts of ungodly goolies which may not seem bent to the eye.

On my bike I hit a hedge once at about the same speed and in the end I noticed the forks were bent as my tyre wear was odd, but at a first and second glance you couldn't notice too much.

Also, have you claimed this against the council?

ok well I hope the damage its not too bad, the Insurance should pay because I don’t think I can claim against the council in Prague

Chassis damage is (in all honesty) highly unlikey at 60mph. The wheel, tyre and suspension will have taken it all and I'm going to stick my neck out here and say at worst you'll have bent your shock strut.

Just spoke to the garage, no serious damage, 2 new alloys (it’s a shame because they where new this summer), 2 new tires (again only 3 months old) and a little bit of work to the body panels.

Work should come in at under £2k
