im toying with some options for a gaming system im going to be building. i already have a cube M-atx case ive had awhile waiting to be used, but i also thought about whats the smallest i could build that i could buy a pico for.

ive always wanted a Nuc, but you cant game on them or least not the cheaper ones anyways ha.

could run an AMD APU system, they are fine for gaming, though a little difficult to get recent ones as they have all been for OEM systems. AMD did say the 5000 series APUs would come to retail at some point

If you can find an AMD "GE" CPU, they are rather low on the power consumption, Ryzen 5 4600GE and Ryzen 7 4700GE especially. You might also beable to squeeze a R5 3600+1050ti in there if you have one of the 150-200W models.

The SOC boards like Xeon D are practically designed for it, some drawing only a few watts.

If you're too poor for those fancy parts the Intel Celeron J5040 or J4005, which are both extremely cheap and low power options (10 Watts). The J4005B boards are priced as low as £60, and being SOC, are both a motherboard and CPU. Maybe slap 8GB of SODIMM and a used DDR5 1030 in it and have a low-end PC for about £150, which can probably do some basic gaming.

havent been on for a while, so had forgotten all about this doh!. thank you for the replies.

things have changed a bit since i made this thread. so the cube case i was going to use is now sporting my dell xps specs, well obviously with a compatible mobo and a different psu as ive modded the case somewhat. i havent been pc gaming, so no need to build for that anymore(never sold my laptop anyways), but i am doing a custom DIY build in a not so known chassis of an idea(record player) which limits me to mini everything depending on psu used which i have been trying different style units, however i have seen a 160w pico on the bay likely used as its under 15 quid which im itching to buy.

because of the nature of that custom build i will be looking at APU or least non discreet graphic options for the time being as im not sure how gaming capable id be able to make it, so spending big isnt a route i will want to take. its good to know what i could power though.
