My HP DV2000 laptop has been dead for a while, and because its Part Number isn't on the HP List, it wont be repaired for free, instead for £300!

So looking at options of what laptop can be had for a bit more than what it would cost to replace it.

Will be used to play movies on the TV, FM2009 (when out) and general use, Photoshop etc! Don't really want anything bigger than a 14.1" screen.

Haven't really kept up to date with the laptops recently. Sort of leaning towards a second hand Macbook, to go with the iMac :p.

TIA

not sure quite how much photoshop work you do, but i just picked up an inspiron 1525 from an auction site...brand new unopened box, 3 years european on-site warranty, t8300 2.4ghz 800mhz fsb 3mb cache, 4 gigs ddr2, 320gb hdd, 8x dvd-rw, 15.4" 1440x900 glossy screen, bluetooth, wifi, 2 megapixel webcam + stereo mic's, and x3100 graphics...which, to be honest, look pretty good for on-board graphics. ports wise: it has 4 usb, 10/100 ethernet, modem, hdmi, firewire, s-video, 2x earphones, 1x mic, infrared (for remote), a memory card reader slot, and an express card slot. it came with vista home premium sp1 and media direct, but i was having issues with vmware so i re-loaded xp onto it using downgrade rights...and then put media direct back on-top. overally i'm pretty impressed...i was expecting it to be bulky and heavy, but it's really not...and i'm especially pleased considering it came to £500 delivered...! i then also bought a remote control which fits in the express card slot...this works 'natively' with the laptop, no software etc. watched transformers on it, using media direct, over the weekend and was chuffed to bits with the screen, and even the speakers sound better (or rather, louder!) within media direct. i can chuck up some decent photo's when i get home if you like?
